- W2891040870 abstract "Abstract Individuals with disabilities are significantly more likely to be living in poverty, and therefore in low-resourced environments, than their counterparts without disabilities. A variety of contributing factors are involved including social determinants of health, the cyclical nature of reinforcing, multigenerational poverty factors, and lack of access to resources that create the foundation for equity and the ability to move from poverty into meaningful employment and financial empowerment. Additionally, the cultural diversity of the populations, which rehabilitation professionals serve, continues to grow, which often presents an intersection with low-income individuals and households. Rehabilitation professionals must proactively seek out ongoing professional development in cultural competence in order to practice effectively and ethically with these growing populations into the future." @default.
