Incorporating the advantages of both technologies, we propose the concept of mmWave-based F-RAN to accommodate the exponential growth of wireless traffic. In this article, we survey the challenges and performances for the access link and fronthaul link in mmWave-based F-RAN. Then energy-efficient power allocation in an orthogonal frequency-division multiple access network is investigated in view of the interference management. The optimization problem is formulated as a nonlinear programming problem in order to achieve the maximal energy efficiency of the system. A gradient-based iteration algorithm is proposed to search the optimal solution for the energy-efficient power allocation. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performance of system capacity in mmWave-based F-RAN and the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms from the aspect of energy efficiency." @default.
