As a result of this, Lutheran priests arrived in Tharangampadi to spread the gospel among the local people in Tamil Nadu. The priests learn to read and write Tamil language. They mastered many Tamil literatures and among them is Thirukkural. This paper deals with the efforts taken in Translating Thirukkural in German Deutsch language, particularly looking at the efforts of Dr.Karl Graul.   Key words: Thirukkural, Tamil Language, German Deutsch Language, Trade, Karl Graul, translation work, Ziegenbalg, Danish East India Company.     ஆய்வுச் சுருக்கம்: தென்னிந்திய கடற்கரைப் பகுதியில் போர்த்துகீசியர்களால் தோற்றுவிக்கப்பட்ட வியாபார நவடிக்கைகளும், கி.பி. 16-17ஆம் நூற்றாண்டுகளில் நிகழ்ந்த சமயப் பரப்ப நடவடிக்கைகளும் பிரித்தானியருக்கு இப்பகுதியில் வியாபார நடவடிக்கைகளைத் தொடங்கும் எண்ணத்தைத் தூண்டின, அதில் நல்ல வெற்றியும் பெற்றனர். இதனால், தென்னிந்தியக் கடரற்கரைப் பகுதிகளில், வியாபார முயற்சிகளில் டென்மார்க் அரசும் முனைப்புக் காட்டத் தொடங்கியது. டேனிஷ் ஈஸ்ட் இந்தியா கம்பெனி உருவாக்கம் பெற்று, கிழக்குக் கடற்கரைப் பகுதியில் செயல்படத் தொடங்கியது. அவர்தம் அரசரின் விருப்பத்திற்கு இணங்க வியாபாரம் மட்டுமன்றி, இப்பகுதியில் லூதரன் கிருத்துவ மதப்பரப்பத்திலும் ஈடுபட்டனர். இதன் விளைவாக லூதரன் கிருத்துவ பாதிரிமார்களும் தமிழ் நாட்டு மக்கள் மத்தியில் மதம் பரப்பும் பொருட்டு தரங்கம்பாடி வந்திறங்கினர். இவர்கள் தமிழில் எழுதவும் படுக்கவும் கற்றுக்கொண்டனர். இப்பாதிரிமார்கள், திருக்குறள் உட்பட பல தமிழ் இலக்கியங்களையும் கற்றுத்தேர்ந்திருந்தனர். ஐரோப்பிய மொழிகளில் ஒன்றான ஜெர்மானிய மொழியில் (டோய்ச்) திருக்குறள் மொழிபெயர்ப்பு செய்யப்பட்டு  ஜெர்மானிய மொழி பேசும் மக்கள் மத்தியில் இந்த நூல், தமிழ் இலக்கியத்துக்கு ஓர் அறிமுகமாகிய வரலாற்றுச் செய்தியை விவரிப்பதாகவும் அதில் குறிப்பாக டாக்டர். கார்ல் க்ரவுல் எழுதி பதிப்பித்த திருக்குறள் மொழிபெயர்ப்பு பற்றிய செய்திகளைத் தருவதாகவும் இக்கட்டுரை அமைகின்றது.   குறிப்புச் சொற்கள்: திருக்குறள், தமிழ் மொழி, ஜெர்மன் டச்சு மொழி, வாணிபம், கார்ல் கிரால், மொழிபெயர்ப்பு, சீகன்பால்க், டானிஷ் கிழக்கிந்தியக் கம்பெனி." @default.
