- W2891839045 abstract "A multidisciplinary study concerning the Cenomanian inner plat¬ form of Provence (Southeastern France) is reported from a well exposed section located near Le Revest (Toulon, Var), hereby used as a model. Lithology, sequential analysis, macrofaunas and a particulary detailed investigation about both micropaleontological (fora-minifers, ostracodes) and sedimentological data are used. Type-assemblages of microfaunas are defined through a factorial analysis and previous investigations about species paleoecology. Sedimentological silt-sized and clay-sized fractions are analysed using X-rays methods in order to describe clay-minerals groups and roent-genofacies with reference to recent marine/brackish environments (sea/continent interface). Type-environments are then defined more accurrately and a paleoenvironmental evolution is proposed with four main stages : — Above the bauxite, a true continental environment with some evidence of a nearly littoral zone in the upper part. — After the first true marine attempt, shallow lagoonal environments, more or less confined, upon previous paleotopography : the area remains directly under continental and structural control. This stage ends by a rapid but well marked marine ingression. — In the upper part of Middle Cenomanian, continental influences are dominant within inner to marginal environments (oligoha-linity trend) reaching temporarily to emersion. — Cyclic steady variations but under more open marine conditions (true marine transgression, lower part of Upper Cenomanian) with a relative renewal of microfauna (new marine species) and reworking of sedimentary supply washed from external platform (older-or penecontemporaneous-deposits) towards the shoreline. This study also must be replaced within regional structural patterns that may explain both biological and sedimentological evolutions of the area. At least, these interpretations are integrated in the more general context (sea-level changes...) of both Tethyan realm and Atlantic area. The Cenomanian inner platform of Southern France may be considered as a good model of environmental answers to progressive but discontinuous transgressive trends." @default.
