Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) uses single-mode fiber, but it is possible to acquire DAS data with a multi-mode cable. We compare the single- and multi-mode DAS vertical seismic profile (FiberVSP™) data acquired in the same well and show the ability to obtain comparable products, but the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the multi-mode data degrades.
