- W2892079151 abstract "Many remains of organisms in Holocene sediments from the Baltic Sea enter the fossil record. These (sub)fossils bear a wealth of information about past environments. The present paper describes all relevant taxonomic groups larger than 63 μm and gives data on hard part identification, preservation, ecology and applications. Many important taxa are presented by light-microscopic photographs and ecological data. If possible, references are given for taxonomic keys and ecology referring to the area of the southern Baltic Sea. Typical associations and indicator taxa are listed as references for palaeoenvironmental reconstructions. This review is intended to serve students and scientists of geosciences, biology and archaeology as an introduction to the identification and use of microfossils from the Baltic Sea or other Holocene brackish-water sediments." @default.
