While their propagation is free of Joule heating effects, the generation and manipulation of spin waves often requires current sources, and thus dissipative processes, so methods that rely instead on voltage are sought. The authors demonstrate one such approach, based on surface acoustic waves and the resonant magnetoelastic excitation of bulk and edge modes in ferromagnetic nanowires.
