- W2893038565 abstract "Cholesterol granuloma (CG) is a tissue reaction in response to the accumulation of cholesterol crystals, rarely found in the maxillary sinus, and the etiopathogenesis remains unclear. We report 2 cases of CG in the maxillary sinus, related to endodontically treated maxillary posterior teeth. The first case was of a 45-year-old woman diagnosed with rhinitis, submitted to endodontic retreatment of the maxillary molar, and subsequently showing a maxillary sinus opacity with a cystic appearance, pain, and nasal congestion. The second case involves a young adult woman, who presented with a cystic mass in the maxillary sinus after endodontic treatment, in close association with the apex of the maxillary right second premolar. Both the patients were treated with surgery, without recurrence, and the microscopic analyses revealed maxillary sinus CG. These cases show the probable involvement of endodontically treated maxillary posterior teeth in the etiopathogenesis of maxillary sinus CG." @default.
