- W2893758850 abstract "In this present study, friction stir welding of aluminium and 304 stainless steel were carried out in the range of tool rotational speed from 200 to 1000 rpm at an interval of 200 rpm with a constant traverse speed of 15 mm min−1. The microstructure of the interface and different regions of the welded joints were investigated using optical microscope, scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive spectroscopy. The microstructure at the stir zone showed the mixed band of Al and SS particles with fine grain structure and more number of SS particles was observed in the stir zone at higher tool rotational speeds. The presence of intermetallics at the welded region was confirmed by x-ray diffraction technique. The micro-hardness profile along the cross section of the welded joint was evaluated and maximum hardness value was found at the interface of the welded joint. The maximum tensile strength of the welded joint was achieved at 800 rpm which was ∼80% of the Al base metal. The potentiodynamic polarization study of the welded joints was carried out with 3.5% NaCl solution at room temperature and it was observed that the corrosion rate increases with increase in tool rotational speed." @default.
