• W2893878788 abstract "The research presented in this chapter was developed in the intersection between the Cultural Psychology and the Dialogical Self Theory. The main objective was to characterize children’s meaning-making processes in the institutional transition from preschool to primary school, analyzing the development of their dialogical self-system how values may play a role in such development. The participants were seven children, between five and six years old, from public educational institutions in Brasilia, Brazil. Two children were selected to be analyzed in this chapter. From a qualitative and an idiographic approach, children, teachers, and parents were interviewed, teachers and children also observed and videotaped during their daily routines in the classroom. Results showed that children can assume different self-positionings and they may change from one educational context to the other. Significant others are important agents for the children coconstruction of positioning, through cultural canalization, communication/metacomunnication, and anticipation processes, among others. On the basis of the case studies, we concluded that children could not only cope with the challenge of adaptation to a new educational context, but also were able to create new meanings about themselves." @default.
