- W2894037215 abstract "Abstract Major applications of bioactive glasses and glass-ceramics in clinics concern the repair of bone and hard calcified tissues in orthopedics and dentistry. Recent studies have also shown the suitability of these biomaterials in contact with soft tissues to promote, for example, wound healing, angiogenesis, and a series of therapeutic effects ranging from drug release to cancer treatment. Ocular surgery is a less popular, emerging field of application in which bioactive glasses could play a valuable role in the next few years. This chapter provides a state-of-the art review about the use of bioactive glass-based materials in the management of orbital fractures, enucleation procedures, and corneal surgery, and highlights the potential and open challenges for future research in this field." @default.
