- W2894514521 abstract "Although sarcopenia and osteoporosis, which could similarly be defined as the age-related decline in bone mass and strength, are generally considered as separate processes, their phenotypes are increasingly identified as co-occurring with aging. The combination of these two diseases exacerbates negative health outcomes and has been described as a “hazardous duet” adding the propensity of falls associated with sarcopenia to the vulnerability of bones in those with osteoporosis. Osteosarcopenia has been associated with poor outcomes in older persons. In summary, both osteosarcopenia and dysmobility are associated with adverse health outcomes that could be prevented if muscle and bone loss are recognized and effective therapeutic interventions are implemented. Therapies for osteosarcopenia have a beneficial effect not only on bone and muscle mass, but also on physical function and strength. Nutritional supplementation is likely to be a key component of treatment approaches for osteosarcopenia/dysmobility." @default.
