For a therapy of neurodegenerative diseases, preventing a neuronal cell death is a very important current topic. However, a therapeutic strategy which targets cell death inhibition has not yet succeeded. Because this kind of cell death which occurs during neurodegenerative diseases is still controversial, we have to elucidate the cell death process. Recent data suggests neuronal cell death could occur by suppression of a cell function. We have studied the neuronal cell death caused by transcriptional repression as a model of cell death in neurodegenerative diseases. We consider that the cell death prototype, TRIAD have features that may explain the neuronal death in neurodegeneration. This chapter will address: 1) concept and definitions of TRIAD; 2) morphological features of TRIAD; 3) molecular characteristics of TRIAD; 4) relationship between TRIAD and the cell death of neurodegenerative diseases." @default.
