- W2894925652 abstract "Abstract Experimental studies of neural plasticity typically focus on selected brain areas and functional representation fields. However, during the pathophysiological evolution and during the spontaneous- or therapy-induced recovery period following brain diseases, long-range effects on the functional networks must be expected. Therefore, methodological tools are required that are not limited to one region of interest but can monitor the whole brain network. Here we discuss resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging as a recently introduced powerful imaging technique that sensitively detects changes of functional connectivity networks and has already been successfully applied in many clinical studies. In the present chapter, the potential of resting-state functional connectivity is demonstrated with the growing number of brain disease studies in rodents. We will focus the discussion on the application to neurodegeneration and stroke." @default.
