- W2895038802 abstract "We present a temperature-responsive hydrophilic–hydrophobic switchable coating (S3C) applicable to nonplanar surfaces and based on a temperature-responsive polymer with embedded sprayed microparticles. The S3C was hydrophilic at lower temperature, with contact angle (CA) of ≈6.7° and hydrophobic with CA of ≈138.7° at higher temperature, with a transition temperature of ≈34.4 °C. We investigated the influence of a streamline-shaped object coated with S3C on the hydrodynamic drag force (FD). An experiment showed an unprecedented modulation value of ≈79%; that is, the FD changes from (0.79 ± 0.04) mN at a temperature of ≈20 °C to (0.17 ± 0.13) mN at 50 °C. This type of coating could be employed for various devices such as underwater vehicles to modulate FD based on the desired tasks, either to lower it or to increase it for saving energy or deceleration." @default.
