- W2895584814 abstract "Asia contains some of the most remarkable archaeological and human paleontological localities in the Old World, yet there are many gaps in our knowledge about the ways in which humans evolved between 300 and 10 ka. Our understanding about the past is severely biased due to inordinate attention that has been placed upon certain parts of the world, at the expense of others. Certain parts of Asia, such as the Levant, are well documented, whereas other regions have been poorly investigated, including the Arabian peninsula, parts of South and Central Asia, and large areas in Eastern and Northern Asia. Though a few archaeological sites are well-known in Asia, most are poorly documented due to the lack of detailed interdisciplinary studies, intensive excavations, and the application of scientific methods including chronometric dating. Despite these drawbacks, the archaeological record of Asia provides important information about hominin dispersals, adaptations, and behavior. Many late Pleistocene populations in Asia demonstrate profound changes in settlement patterns, changing from mobile foragers to sedentary societies. Moreover, Western Asia contains some of the earliest evidence for food production economies, the crops of which eventually spread into Europe and North Africa." @default.
