- W2895917648 abstract "Background Peri-implantitis is defined as inflammatory process associated with the loss of supporting bone around dental implant. Decontamination of the implant surface exposed to the biofilm is an important part of the regenerative treatment of periimplantitis. Topography and wettability of implants surface play important role in re-osseointegration of implant. Aim/Hypothesis The aim of this study is to evaluate the cleaning efficiency and the surface modification on intraorally contaminated titanium discs by using different decontamination methods. Material and Methods A total of 56 SLA surface titanium discs (10 mm in diameter and 1.5 mm in thickness) were kept in the human mouth for 48 hours by 14 volunteers. The intraorally contaminated discs were stained with erythrosine dye to make the biofilm visible. Discs were randomly assigned to one of the seven groups- Group 1 contaminated disc (No treatment), group 2 air powder abrasive (APA) with Nano-Hydroxyapatite (30 seconds), group 3 air powder abrasive (APA) with Nano-Hydroxyapatite (120 seconds), group 4 mechanic treatment with titanium curette (120 seconds), group 5 Er YAG laser (120 mj pulse at 10 Hz, 120 s), group 6 Ultrasonic device with Peek tip(120 s), group 7 Ultrasonic device with Peek and 3% H2O2 (120 s +120 s). Contact angles of treated and untreated titanium discs were measured with distilled water (Digidrop GBX Contact Angle Meter). Results Mean contact angles for groups 1–7 were 89.40, 76.56, 67.78, 74.63, 68.25, 71.22, and 70.50 respectively. Surface preparation of intraorally contaminated titanium discs affects wettability. Group 3 air powder abrasive (APA) with Nano-Hydroxylapatite (120 seconds) had the lowest contact angles and the best wettability. Conclusions and Clinical Implications Within the limitations of the present in vitro study, It can be concluded that the best methods for decontamination of the implant surface are long time (120 seconds) air powder abrasive (APA) with Nano-Hydroxylapatite, and Er YAG laser (120 mj pulse at 10 Hz, 120 seconds)." @default.
