- W2895957041 abstract "The Bishop score and length of the uterine cervix have been described as predictors of successful labour induction. However, little is known about the association between funnelling of the cervix and labour induction. This study aimed to evaluate cervical funnelling as a predictor of successful vaginal delivery following labour induction. We conducted a prospective, observational study of nulliparous women at 38 or more weeks of gestation with intact membranes who were delivered following labour induction. We compared predictive accuracy of the cervical funnelling for the delivery mode with that of Bishop score and cervical length. A total of 211 primigravidae women with intact membranes were recruited. Of these, 172 patients (81.5%) delivered vaginally following induction. Cervical funnelling was observed in 96 patients (45.5%). Successful vaginal delivery following induction was significantly higher in subjects with cervical funnelling than those without funnelling (89.6% vs 74.8%, p<0.006). In a multivariate analysis, cervical funnelling was an independent predictor for successful vaginal delivery in labour induction [relative risk 2.84, 95% confidence interval 1.28–6.34]. Both Bishop score and cervical length were also independent predictors for successful labour induction. This study demonstrates that cervical funnelling is predictive of successful vaginal delivery in labour induction. Adjusted for maternal age, GA, birthweight and BMI Supporting information can be found in the online version of this abstract Please note: The publisher is not responsible for the content or functionality of any supporting information supplied by the authors.
