- W2896085302 abstract "Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a progressive and irreversible neurodegenerative disorder, characterized as the main cause of dementia. The diagnosis and evolution are based on tests of cognitive screening, its treatment with anticholinesterase drugs (tacrine, rivastigmine, donepezil, galantamine), aims to improve the quality of life and reduce symptoms. Retrospective cohort study, with data collection of 69 patients with established diagnosis of AD and using acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (Donepezil, Galantamine or Rivastigmine), assisted at the Polyclinic in the city of Londrina - PR/Brazil, with the purpose of investigating the association of risk factors that could influence the response to the drug. The data were systematized and stored through the Microsoft Excell program and 2x2 matrices were created accounting the discreet variables. The chi-square or Fisher test were used for correlation analysis, adopting a significance level (a) of 5%. Among the poor responders, 25.21% were smokers, 25.21% were alcoholics, 38.71% used vitamin B12; while among good responders, only one was a smoker, none was alcoholic and 3 (7.98%) used vitamin B12. Regarding anticholinesterase drugs, 22 (57.89%) patients who responded well were given galantamine, 58.06% of the poor responders used donepezil. AD is a challenging pathology that requires specific studies of the correlation between response to treatment and risk factors for each individual." @default.
