- W2896128519 abstract "Recurrent episodic pain is reported by two-thirds of school-age children, whereas roughly 6% report daily pain lasting 3 months or longer. Pediatric chronic pain is associated with significant functional impairment, poor quality of life, and increased risk for psychopathology, including somatic symptom disorders. Physical rehabilitation and CBT are evidence-based treatments. An informal survey of pediatric pain clinics in the United States suggests that they commonly involve psychologists but rarely involve psychiatrists. This talk aims to discuss the following: 1) the role of child and adolescent psychiatrists in a multidisciplinary treatment team; 2) the development and presentation of a biopsychosocial formulation and treatment plan to patients and families; and 3) the existing behavioral and pharmacologic treatment options for pediatric chronic pain and their mental illness comorbidities." @default.
