Glycerol-water solutions of different viscosities were used as the core stream, and ionic liquid ([BMIM][PF6]) as the sheathing stream. The formation mechanism of “sausage” wave in a flow-focusing device and the regulation of the characteristic size of “sausage” wave were studied systematically. The effects of the flow rate ratio and the capillary number of the core stream on the characterized size of “sausage” wave were investigated. Moreover, the prediction formulas of the initial length of the “sausage” wave, the wavelength and amplitude of the stable “sausage” wave and the formation frequency of the “sausage” were presented. The research is conducive to a full understanding of the effect of the fluid viscosity on interfacial dynamics in microchannel and accordingly provides valuable reference to manipulate soft matter and to synthesize micro-materials such as micro-fibers." @default.
