- W2896532663 abstract "This chapter mainly discussed the structural characterization and bioactive functions of a special proanthocyanidins (PAs) extracted from Chinese bayberry (Myrica rubra Sieb. et Zucc.) leaves. Reverse and normal phase HPLC, LC/MS, NMR and MALDI-TOF techniques were used to determine the structure of bayberry leaves PAs (BLPs). Results showed that BLPs mainly contain epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate (EGCG) as their terminal and most of the extension units with the mean degree of polymerization at around 6.5, and more than 98% of them are galloylated. With such special structure, BLPs exhibited strong anti-oxidant, anti-cancer and anti-hyperlipidemic activites in chemical and cellular assays. Our results provide useful information for the identification of PAs from wasted components of plants and for the exploitation of BLPs as a novel type of functional food." @default.
