- W2896570138 abstract "The goal of developing a holocinematographic velocimeter (HCV) is to provide a technique to study the evolution of instantaneous three dimensional velocity profiles in turbulent flow fields. The method tracks individual seed particles that have been introduced into the flow. An imaging system using far-field holography is used to provide full field of view tracking. Velocity information is determined from measured particle displacements of sequential hologram reconstruction. After reconstruction, a digital imaging system locates each particle’s relative position. A velocity profile is then determined from transient recording of holographic images. Subsequent frames are reconstructed and particles thus tracked during known time intervals. This study examines the resolution limits of far-field holography as applied to the HCV. The results are to aid in the determination of required seeding concentrations, establish the ability to resolve particle centers, and illustrate the use of a dual TV camera system to aid resolution. Analytical and experimental results show the relative insensitivity of particle detection to interference by nearby particles either in or out of the image plane.
