Whereas the government has drafted a Law on National Education System related to the basis and function of education which refers to the 1945 Constitution and Pancasila, even long before the government designed character education, KH. M. Hasyim Asy'ari had first discussed about character education in his works, both in the book Adab al-‘Alim wa al-Muta‘allim or other books and treatises. Based on the above background, the focus of the problem in this study is the study of Hadratussyaikh KH. M. Hasyim Asy'ari about character education in the book Adâb al-Âlim wa al-Muta'allim is relevant to character education values listed in the National Education System Law. This research method uses a qualitative research model with a literature study approach, while collecting techniques data from various literatures in the form of scientific books, journals, and articles. Data analysis was carried out in a descriptive narrative. The results of this study are as follows: Hadratussyaikh KH. Hasyim Asy'ari about character education in the book Adâb al-Âlim wa al-Muta‘allim is relevant to the National Education System. This was indicated by the character values conveyed by him in his works in accordance with the character values listed in the National Education System. Memudarnya karakter anak bangsa ditunjukkan dengan meningkatnya aksi-aksi yang berdampak pada rusaknya diri bangsa kita sendiri, seperti tawuran, pembunuhan, pemerkosaan, danlain-lain. Hal tersebut menunjukkan belum optimalnya tujuan pendidikan. Padahal pemerintah telah merancang Undang-undang tentang Sistem Pendidikan Nasional terkait dasar dan fungsi pendidikan yang merujuk pada Undang-undang Dasar 1945 dan Pancasila, bahkan jauh sebelum pemerintah merancang pendidikan karakter, KH. M. Hasyim Asy’ari telah terlebih dahulu membahas tentang pendidikan karakter dalam karya-karyanya, baik dalam kitab Adab al-‘Alim wa al-Muta‘allim ataupun kitab dan risalah yang lainnya. Berdasarkan latar belakang di atas, fokus permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah telaah pemikiran Hadratussyaikh KH. Hasyim Asy’ari tentang pendidikan karakter dalam kitab Ad â b al- Â lim wa al-Muta‘allim apakah relevan dengan nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang tercantum dalam Undang-undang Sisdiknas. M etode penelitian ini menggunakan modelpenelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan kajian pustaka , Sedangkan t eknikpengumpulan data dari berbagai literatur baik berupa buku-bukuilmiah , jurnal, dan artikel .Analisis data dilakukansecaradeskriptif naratif . Adapun hasil penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut: Telaah pemikiran Hadratussyaikh KH.
