• W2896761664 abstract "Health organizations in the Philippines continue to address the decrease in quality of primary healthcare services, in which it is perceived that the lower the nurse-patient ratio, the better the quality of these services. The study is to determine whether there is a significant correlation between the nurse-patient ratio and the selected five (5) indicators on the quality of primary health care services (Maternal Mortality Rate, Infant Mortality Rate, Under 5 Mortality Rate, Proportion of Fully Immunized Children and Malnutrition Rate), common to the nine (9) municipalities (Guiuan, Mercedes, Salcedo, Quinapondan, Gen. McArthur, Hermani, Balangiga, Giporlos and Lawaan) in the southern part of Eastern Samar. Documents (review of Field Health Services Information System (FHSIS) and the Annual Accomplishment Reports) were gathered and structured interviews and a Likert scale survey were conducted to supply the results and findings of the study. It was found out that most of the municipalities have reached the national standard of nurse patient ratio that was mandated by the FHSIS, except for Guiuan and Salcedo. It was also found out that all of the municipalities have passed the standards, in exception of the Proportion of Fully Immunized Children and the Malnutrition Rate, wherein some municipalities have failed to pass the set standard. And as per the correlation of the two variables, there is no enough evidence to prove the significant relationship between the nurse patient ratio and the indicators of health care units. However, there is a weak positive association between the nurse-patient ratio and EPI coverage. This means that as the nurse patient ratio increases, EPI coverage increases but relationship is weak as well. MMR has also a weak negative correlation with nurse-patient ratio.
