Amac: Bu calismanin amaci yogun bakim unitesinde klinik uygulama yapan hemsirelik intorn ogrencilerin ilk ve son gun yasadiklari kaygi duzeylerinin belirlenmesidir. Sonuc: Bulgular dogrultusunda, yogun bakim stajinin ogrencilerin kaygisini arttirdigi soylenebilir. Abstract Anxiety Levels of Intern Nursing Students in Intensive Care Units Background: Although there is a widespread view that intensive care units are a stressful environment for student nurses, there is not enough evidence in the relevant literature. Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine anxiety levels of intern nursing students on the first and last days of their clinical practices in the intensive care unit (ICU). Method: The sample of this descriptive and cross-sectional study comprised 86 final year nursing students of a university having their internship program. The data were collected with the sociodemographic characteristics questionnaire and state anxiety inventory, and evaluated with percentage distributions, Wilcoxon Marked Sequence test, Mann - Whitney U test Results: It was determined that %83.7of the students didn’t have intensive care internship before. There was a statistically significant difference between the students’ mean state anxiety scores they achieved on the first (39.53 ± 5.88) and last days (43.66 ± 5.52) of the intensive care internship (t = -4.770, p = .000). The students who had previous intensive care experience were also determined to have statistically significantly higher levels of anxiety both on the first and on the last days of the training(p <0.05). Conclusion: In line with the results, it can be said that intensive care internship increases the students’ anxiety. Therefore, in order to reduce the students’ anxiety, it is recommended that necessary arrangements aiming to support both students and education activities during the educational process in intensive care units should be made.
