However, most spin photodiodes only work with a large applied magnetic field, because of the in-plane magnetization of the spin detector. The authors investigate the growth and spin-polarized photocurrent of a perpendicularly magnetized Co-Fe-B/MgO spin detector on germanium. Without using any magnetic field, they obtain asymmetry in photocurrent helicity that is detectable at room temperature, for 1310-nm light. This work will impact the development of devices for the optical transport of spin information." @default.
