- W2897218245 abstract "Fundació ACE Memory Unit attends non-scheduled consultations about medical and social issues in patients with neurodegenerative diseases, following the recommendations guidelines for Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias. This activity provides a rapid and effective assistance to the demands of patients and their caregivers. The analysis of this activity can give us information regarding the features of the patients that use the service. The aim of this study is to determine, using a data mining procedure, if a subsample of patients with high frequency of demands can be identified, and if these patients can be consistently characterized. In this retrospective study, we used Clusters Analysis to identify groups of patients according to: number of consultations, gender, age, years of education, diagnostic syndrome and MMSE at baseline, and yearly MMSE during 4 years of follow up. From January 2010 and December 2016, Fundació ACE attended 25718 non-scheduled consultations from 13632 patients. We analyzed a subset of 4245 patients with 4 years of follow up and a total of 15517 consultations. Cluster Analysis showed that a critical group of patients can be identified (Table 1). The prototypical profile of this highly demanding group is: diagnosis of dementia syndrome, women, around 70 years old, with 8 years of education, and fast MMSE decline. This group of patients represents only the 5% of the sample but generates up to one third of consultations. Cluster Analysis of the non-scheduled consultations has given us relevant information about the patients that are attended by this service, which will allow us to design future strategies to target accurately their particular needs. Also, it will help us to predict which patients will be highly demanding due to their clinical and sociodemographic features." @default.
