- W2897333071 abstract "It is crucial to assess memory in patients at risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD). We aim to investigate the importance of both correct and incorrect answers during delayed recall and recognition trials in patients with subjective and mild cognitive impairment, and the relation to AD biomarkers. 98 patients from a university-hospital based memory clinic, aged 43-78 (mean 61), scoring 2 (n=27) or 3 (n=71) on the Global Deterioration Scale were included. Lumbar puncture and neuropsychological examination were performed. Memory was assessed using the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test. In addition to correctly recalled words during delayed recall and recognition trials, the number of intrusions (incorrectly recalled words) during these trials was measured. Regression analyses were performed to assess the association between different memory measures and CSF biomarker levels (Aβ42, T-tau and P-tau). All analyses were adjusted for age. 1) Age, recall correct words and recall intrusions were entered in the analyses as independent variables, together with one of the CSF biomarkers as the dependent variable at a time. Recall correct words (but not recall intrusions) correlated significantly with T-tau (p=0.01), P-tau (p=0.02) and borderline with Aβ42 (p=0.08). 2) Age, recognition correct words and recognition intrusions were entered in the analyses as independent variables, together with one of the CSF biomarkers as the dependent variable at a time. Recognition intrusions (but not correct words recognition) correlated significantly with T-tau (p=0.01), P-tau (p=0.05) and borderline with Aβ42 (p=0.08). 3) Regression analyses were performed with age and a score indicating the difference between correctly and incorrectly recalled words as independent variables, where the difference score correlated significantly with T-tau (p=0.01), P-tau (p=0.05) and borderline with Aβ42 (p=0.09). When analyses were performed with age and a score indicating the difference between correctly and incorrectly recognized words, the difference score was a significant predictor of Aβ42, T-tau and P-tau (p<0.05). Both correctly recalled words and intrusions are important measures of memory and associated with pathological levels of CSF biomarkers in high-risk pre-dementia states. These results suggest that intrusions provide additional information to correctly recalled words in assessment of predementia cognitive impairment." @default.
