- W2897536154 abstract "Background An alternative to using cement- or screw-retained coupling for single tooth restorations on implants, is a conometric (friction-retained) connection. This alternative excludes the risk for excess cement or the disadvantage with a screw access hole. The retention of a single tooth friction-retained connection is dependent on the cone angle, coefficient of friction, initial push-in force and the external load situation. Aim/Hypothesis This study was set up to evaluate the conometric mode of retention over time under dynamic loading. Material and Methods In modified 30° test setup, according to ISO 14801-2016, the fully embedded implants, with conometric straight abutments and conometric caps, were loaded with the defined dynamic loading at 15 Hz for 5,000,000 cycles. Plastic caps were plugged onto the samples to ensure correct force application according to ISO 14801-2016. The retention of the conical connection between abutment and cap was tested after 1, 350.000, 1.250.000, 2.500.000, 3,750,000 and 5,000,000 loading cycles in a pull-off test with a constant testing speed of 2 mm/minute. To evaluate the conometric mode of retention over time under cyclic loading the ratio between retention and axial load was considered. The axial load was defined as follows- axial load = fatigue load × cos (30°). The ratio between retention of the conical connection and axial load was defined as follows- Ratio = Retention axial load. Results There is sufficient evidence to assume that the data is normally distributed (probability plot P ≥ 0.05). The ratio increases over time but flattens out on a level between 0.6–0.85 after approx. 1,250,000 cycles. No statistical difference of ratio between 1,250,000–5,000,000 however, there is a statistically significant difference between cycle 1 and 350,000–5,000,000. Conclusions and Clinical Implications It was concluded that the conometric connection of the tested samples maintains its stability over time under cyclic loading. There was no effect of wear detected." @default.
