- W2897555169 abstract "Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) may be predictive of later cognitive dysfunction and we and others have shown that SCD may begin in mid-life in women during or after the menopause transition with functional connectivity differences. Cancer-related cognitive impairment is persistent (pCRCI) in 35%–60% of patients. Given that SCD may be a risk factor for late-life cognitive decline, a group of post-menopausal women with pCRCI was compared to two groups of post menopausal women: those who endorse maSCD (SCD+ group) and control women (SCD-) to explore the potential role of menopause in pCRCI. 24 women (mean age 54) were recruited with pCRCI and compared to 39 early post-menopausal women (mean age 56). The Cognitive Complaint Index (CCI) was used be used to quantify subjective decline. Measures of menopausal symptoms and mood were collected. Cognitive domains tested included tests of arousal and attention: Critical Flicker Fusion (CFF) task, Choice Reaction Time (CRT) task and memory using the Selective Reminding Task (SRT). pCRCI participants had a significantly (p<0.0001) higher mean CCI score (mean=0.45) compared to both SCD+ (0.28) and SCD- MP subjects (0.1). pCRCI participants and SCD+ both had a significantly (p<0.0001) higher mean MSC score than SCD-. pCRCI showed a significantly slower CRT Total RT, p=0.045) than both MP groups. pCRCI participants had a significantly (p<0.0001) slower CRT Recognition RT compared to both SCD+ and SCD- MP subjects. There was a significant positive correlation between CCI score and CRT Median Recognition RT (r(58)=0.36, p=0.005) and CRT Total RT (r(58)=0.28, p=0.03). There was a significant positive correlation between CCI and BDI score (r(61)=0.5, p<0.0001) and between CCI and MSC score (r(61)=0.6, p<0.0001). pCRCI participants showed greater cognitive complaints and menopausal symptoms and reduced attentional performance compared to maSCD. Cognitive complaints and slower performance strongly correlated with menopausal and mood symptoms. This may indicate long-term changes in cortical activity secondary to chemotherapy and rapid onset of menopause in patients post chemotherapy. The persistence of a significant level of cognitive complaints in pCRCI or maSCD may indicate that such patients are at increased risk for late-life cognitive impairment." @default.
