- W2897622533 abstract "Susceptibility to scams is a significant issue among older adults, even among those with intact cognition. We have reported that higher susceptibility to scam is associated with lower grey matter volumes, particularly within right medial temporal regions. Less is known about associations with white matter integrity. We investigated associations of scam susceptibility with white matter integrity as measured using diffusion weighted imaging (DTI). ±±2.9 years) without dementia completed a self-report measure of susceptibility to scam (max score=7) and comprehensive neuropsychological and neuroimaging (included DTI, T1- and T2-weighted imaging) protocols. Tract-Based Spatial Statistics (TBSS) investigated the association of susceptibility to scam with white matter diffusion measures [separately for fractional anisotropy (FA) and trace] adjusting for age, sex, education, global cognitive functioning, and presence of white matter hyperintensities (WMH; total volume and voxelwise as separate covariates). Statistical significance was determined at p<0.05, Family Wise Error corrected. ±0.68. TBSS analysis revealed significant inverse correlations between susceptibility to scam and FA values in a number of white matter regions of the right hemisphere (Figure 1). The pathways implicated were mainly in the superior temporal and inferior and superior parietal regions. Analysis of the trace of the diffusion tensor was not significant. Higher susceptibility to scam is associated with lower white matter integrity within tracts of the right hemisphere, adding to our previous reports for grey matter. Taken together, our work suggests a right hemisphere brain network that includes key structures implicated in prospective processing and the consideration of future consequences may serve as a neuroimaging signature related to scam susceptibility in vulnerable older adults." @default.
