An analysis is performed on how the supersposition of a regular layer on itself provides information that enables the shift, rotation and scaling modifications to be measured, whether this layer consists of parallel lines, a regular screen or concentric circles. A simple and versatile way of working which opens the door to the development of many practical applications – easy to implement and to put into operation – is also described here. One of these applications is called the Moire Pendulum, where a suspended mass holds a camera. Thanks to the capturing of images at successive times, the Moire Pendulum enables tiny changes like rotations, shifts, and height variations occurring on an observed surface to be detected, all by means of the computer vision system the camera is part of. Based on the Moire Pendulum, several systems can be developed for the recording of vibration and deformation measurement, which can be applied to the detection of a measurements of motion or be useful to obtain additional information to that gathered by a seismograph." @default.
