- W2899217054 abstract "Objectives: Objective. Reservoir pressure pressures including reservoir pressure (RP), excess pressure (XSP) and systolic rate constant (Sc), independently predict cardiovascular events in adults, but have never been investigated as markers of cardiovascular risk among children. This study aimed to determine the association of reservoir pressure pressures with end-organ makers of cardiovascular risk among children. Methods: Methods. Participants were 11–12 year-old children (n = 1874, 50% male) from the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children's Child Health CheckPoint study. RP, XSP and Sc were measured using a cuff oscillometric device (SphygmoCor XCEL, AtCor, Sydney). Kidney function was determined from estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR, n = 926), and large artery pre-atherosclerosis was determined from carotid intima-media thickness (carotid IMT, n = 1131) using ultrasound. Results: Results. Sc was significantly associated with eGFR after adjusting for sex, body mass index, hypertension (defined ≥ 95th percentile for age, sex and height), heart rate, and physical activity/sedentariness (β = −25.0, 95%CI −40.9 to −9.1, p = 0.002). XSP was significantly associated with carotid IMT after adjusting for the same variables as above (β = 0.7, 95%CI, 0.1 to 1.4, p = 0.025). Conclusion: Conclusion. Reservoir pressure parameters were significantly and independently associated with kidney function and large artery pre-atherosclerosis among a large population of Australian children. The non-invasive method to derive reservoir pressure parameters using an oscillometric cuff device could provide useful clinical information in children." @default.
