- W2899239148 abstract "The double-star chopper-cell (DSCC) and the double-star bridge-cell (DSBC) modular multilevel converters (MMCs) may be designed with a reduced number of modules when higher grid currents and an increased volume of the passive components are acceptable. The full-bridge modules in the DSBC even allow for designs with increased power conversion efficiency at the expense of additional modules. This paper presents an integrated optimal design methodology that exploits these additional degrees of freedom while at the same time maximizing power density and power conversion efficiency. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a short-circuit-proof 250kW, 35kVDC bidirectional active rectifier prototype system is presented that has been designed with emphasis on reduced realization effort." @default.
