- W2899291497 abstract "Abstract Three-dimensional flow around a piezoelectric fan has been calculated using unsteady simulations to analyze the endwall effects on it. To resolve a small gap between the fan side and the endwall, only hexahedral elements were used with a spring-based smoothing technique. The numerical results showed that the axial velocity magnitude decreases significantly near the plate corner as the gap height increases. Moreover, the endwall had little effects on the flow around the fan when the endwall was located farther away from the fan side than four times the oscillating amplitude. The different gap heights change the size and intensity of both the tip vortex and the side vortex so their interaction is also affected by the endwall location. A complex vortical structure around the fan was displayed by an iso-surface of λ 2 and the interaction between the tip and side vortices with different gap heights was analyzed in detail. Based on the numerical results, it was found that whether the side vortex propagates or not is an important factor in determining three-dimensional flow pattern around the piezoelectric fan." @default.
