- W2902521692 abstract "In speaking of the Energy of the field, however, I wish to be understood literally … The only question is, where does it reside?1 Thinking energy is thinking theory; thinking theory is thinking in dialectics; thinking in dialectics is thinking experimentally; thinking experimentally is thinking creative. The experiment is the promise for the survival of humanistic thinking: it promises the sustenance and, hence, the energy of the literary. How does energy become one of the integral components of “thinking” within “literary” formations? Is energy really a thought? Or does it stay as thinking in the process of uncovering a thought? Energy is for me a challenge to “identity thinking”; it reveals as the “non-identical” that cultivates the energy of the literary work and proves “harrowing”—in the sense of a “plunder” and “wound”—through conceptual connections, incorporations, appropriation, and cooptations. Cultural conciliation is a myth—a utopian caprice—because conciliation is a struggle to conceal the bristle and fermentation that every idea, community formation, and ideological affiliation leaves in its wake. So making asymmetries to convey sense becomes an energetic act. Is energy a version of enmeshed thinking, a kind of “moreness” that need not always be undergirded by a thought-freight judgment? When we think that we have departmentalized and outlined literature, literature energizes a leap ahead of us, in lines that have failed our scales and rulers, our compasses and dividers, building, in the process, its own protractors and detractors. How “energetic” is the literary as it moves across fields of inquiry, domains of curiosity, and frontiers of entangled discourses of understanding? How does literary thinking and “thinking” the literary go together?" @default.
