- W290410144 abstract "This paper examines the needs, roles and financing of the military transportation system required for the defence of Australia and then endeavours to correlate this system with civilian needs. The paper highlights the author's research into the defence of Australia from the Army's viewpoint. However, there is mention of the transportation needs of the R.A.A.F. and to a lessor extent, the R.A.N. The paper commences with the short and long term modus operandi for the defence of the Australian mainland against overt and covert enemies. Consequently, the needs, roles, vehicles and transport infrastructure of the military has been derived. This military transportation system is then compared with civilian requirements. This paper concludes that there is some correlation between the desirable military and civilian transportation systems. However, in the short and probably in the long term there will be inadequate finance available to meet major portions of both systems. Therefore, there will be a continuing need for all levels of government to determine priorities. In major areas, these priorities will be in conflict with community attitudes." @default.
