- W2904106893 abstract "Colubrid snakes are members of the class Reptilia, order Squamata, and family Colubridae. All snakes are carnivores, although they inevitably also ingest plant matter via the stomachs of some of their prey. Snakes may be put together for breeding, although this is for human benefits rather than the snakes' welfare because there is no evidence that company is necessary from a welfare viewpoint. Although snakes may become accustomed to human company, there is no evidence that they derive pleasure from handling interactions unlike some other pet animal species. Snakes can be affected by a variety of health problems, many of which are linked to environmental and general husbandry deficiencies. The best method of euthanasia is usually deep sedation or anaesthesia, followed by the injection of an overdose of pentobarbitone into the ventral tail vein. Signs of welfare problems may be subtle even to the experienced keeper or veterinarian." @default.
