It discusses two specific aspects of technology: the influence technology has had—and is having—on the nature of many job positions; and the broader Human Resource Management (HRM)-related challenges and opportunities posed to organizations via social media. The chapter discusses some of the implications of technology in the process of recruiting, interviewing, and selecting employees. Many companies are using electronic performance management systems (e-PM) to measure employee performance and provide feedback. Such systems can track employee performance, monitor employee activity, record formal and informal feedback, and prompt managers to meet with employees as needed. Many HR departments have adopted e-Compensation systems, which automate payroll and compensation planning, and employee self-service systems (ESS), which allow employees to process routine transactions via a web-based system.
