- W2905055648 abstract "In this paper, we propose a new graph-theoretic method to design an optimal phase plan with minimum number of phases for signalized intersections to increase pedestrian safety and traffic handling capacity. We first construct an incompatibility graph model of a signalized intersection giving higher priority to pedestrian safety that reduces the number of conflicts between traffic streams and pedestrian crosswalks. Then, we design an optimal phase plan with minimum number of phases in a signal cycle employing maximal independent sets computed from the incompatibility graph model. We demonstrate the optimality of the phase plan with concurrent or exclusive pedestrian phase for wide variety of intersections having simple layouts, shared lanes and complex, unsymmetrical geometries." @default.
