- W2905224457 abstract "Preclinical data suggest that Fingolimod (FTY720), a sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor modulator, could be beneficial for treating common neurological disorders, including Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and epilepsy. In the current study, the effects of FTY720 on harmaline-induced motor and cognitive impairments were studied. Male Wistar rats were divided into harmaline (30 mg/kg) and FTY720 (1mg/kg) groups. Passive avoidance memory, exploratory, anxiety related behaviors, tremor, and motor function were assessed. The memory impairments observed in harmaline treated rats were somewhat reversed by administration of FTY720. The results showed that FTY720 could recover step width, left and right step length, but failed to recuperate the mobility duration. FTY720 improved the time spent in the wire grip and rotarod. Results of our study shed light on the beneficial effects of FTY720 on cognition and motor function in a model of essential tremor (ET) and suggest that sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor modulators have potential neuroprotective profile for the management of ET." @default.
