- W2906329226 abstract "We compared HRU among infants with and without RSV infection diagnosis in the Netherlands. The cohort was created from the Perinatal Registry and the PHARMO Database Network including electronic records from different primary and secondary healthcare settings in the Netherlands. We included infants (≤12 months) diagnosed with an RSV infection (ICD-9/10 diagnosis codes in the Hospitalization Database and RSV mentions in the General Practitioner (GP) Database) between 2008 and 2014. Infants had at least one year follow-up and were grouped by specific high-risk factors (HRF+/-), including pre-term births and high-risk conditions. RSV infants were matched with infants without RSV/bronchiolitis. We evaluated HRU in the first year after diagnosis including likelihood of any GP visits or hospitalizations, any/RSV length of stay (LOS), and hospital readmissions for respiratory disease ≤30 days after RSV discharge. HRU for RSV infants and their matched controls were compared using regression analyses. In total, 840 infants (median age, months: 3; IQR 1-6) with an RSV diagnosis were included. Of these, 67.7% were first diagnosed by a GP. 725 (86.3%) infants were HRF- and 115 (13.7%) were HRF+. Of HRF- infants, 36.7% were hospitalized with RSV. Their median RSV hospitalization (N=275) LOS was 5 days (IQR 3-6). 3.3% of the RSV hospitalizations had a respiratory disease readmission ≤30 days after RSV discharge. Of HRF+ infants, 43.5% were hospitalized with RSV. Their median RSV hospitalization (N=53) LOS was 5 days (IQR 3-8). 9.4% of their RSV hospitalizations had a respiratory disease readmissions ≤30 days after RSV discharge. Regression analyses showed that both for RSV HRF+ and HRF- infants their LOS, likelihood of any hospitalization and likelihood of any GP visit was significantly larger compared to their matched controls without RSV/bronchiolitis. RSV is associated with substantial ambulatory and hospital HRU among infants, even among RSV infants without specific high-risk factors." @default.
