- W2909865799 abstract "Social-control agencies and institutions have been an important piece of the story of race relations in the USA. Historical and contemporary scholarship shows that these institutions often reflect racial disparities that are present in the broader society. In this chapter, we investigate several aspects of social control, from policing and criminal justice processing to incarceration and its collateral consequences, as well as their relationship to racial disproportionality in contact, treatment, processing, and outcomes. The existing literature is a complex landscape. The findings on the whole demonstrate the importance of evaluating how these institutions and practices can aid in providing fair and equitable justice for communities of color." @default.
