- W2910218400 abstract "Abstract Waste generation is growing speedily with the progression of human civilization. Rising living standards mean that the consumption of energy is increasing, which directly distresses the budget and the environment. In this context, waste-to-energy (WTE) facilities play a crucial function as they convert waste into energy. Energy disasters and solid waste quantities rising at a shocking level have continued to be a challenge for every nation’s governing institutions. The acceptance of WTE by developing countries has not been efficacious and most of the plants have been unsuccessful in sustaining their processes. There is a lack of comprehensive on-site ground research investigating the causes of WTE unit letdowns and the problems regarding the WTE supply chain. Studies have been done to evaluate the viability of using municipal waste for energy production, and its associated technologies, and to measure the existing management practices. This chapter provides an overarching review of international and national municipal waste management schemes as well as of energy from waste as a significant portion of the global economy in the developing countries. Among the diverse technical problems, the temperature instability of gases and high-temperature deterioration represent two of the chief restrictions to WTE unit efficacy. Furthermore, lower consumption is principal to an improvement in the generation of waste. Instead, there is a robust correlation between increased affluence and amplified energy utilization. The global economy may essentially give the WTE structure a chance to reinforce and enlarge its character toward original or little-developed value chains, for example, secondary raw resource production in addition to the valorization of waste streams taking place in materials reprocessing. An illustrative scenario of WTE technologies along with their challenges under existing conditions is given in this chapter." @default.
