- W2911315951 abstract "İNTRODUCTİON: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disorder that is characterized by symptoms of chronic abdominal pain and altered bowel habits in the absence of an overtly identifiable cause. It is the most commonly diagnosed functional gastrointestinal disorder, accounting for about one third of gastroenterology visit. It generally presents as a complex of symptoms, including psychological dysfunction. The symptoms of IBS are not distinguishable from those of several other gastrointestinal disorders. METHODS: We reported a 40 year old man with a history of IBS for two years. He had pain and bloating predominant symptoms according to ROME IV criteria.Endoscopic, colonoscopic, ultrasonogra phic examinations were normal(Figure-1). Routine laboratory studies, such as complete blood count and blood enzyme panels, tissue transglutaminase antibodies levels were normal. In addition to dietary restrictions such as low-FODMAP (Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharide, Monosaccharides, and Polyols) diets, psychotherapies, drug therapies(antispasmolytic, antidepressants) were unresponded.Figure: Normal colonoscopic appearance.RESULTS: İntraluminal Bifidobacterium animalis subsp.Lactis [9,2 mg(2x109 kob)] in 250 ml serum physiologic]was performed during fleksible sigmoidoscopy(Figure-2). Oral Bifidobacterium animalis subsp.Lactis [9,2 mg(2x109 kob)] was started for one month. The patient's condition improved after İntraluminal and oral Bifidobacterium animalis subsp.Lactis treatment .Bloating and pain symptoms were improved and did not repeat in one month.Figure: Intraluminal Bifidobacterium animalis subsp.Lactis was performed during fleksible sigmoidoscopy.CONCLUSION: Pathogenesis of IBS is thought to be through different factors and there is a relationship between the gut flora and the risk of its development. Probiotics can manipulate the microflora in IBS and may be effective in treating unresponding IBS symptoms. Bifidobacterium strains are saccharolytic and their growth in the gut can be promoted by non-absorbable carbohydrates and its increase in the colon appears to be of benefit. To our knowledge, this is the first documented case to report successful intracolonic and oral Bifidobacterium animalis subsp.Lactis treatment used in a unresponding IBS symptoms" @default.
