- W2911335207 abstract "Abstract The major consequences of projected global warming during the 21st century will be sea-level rise and changes in global climates and intra-seasonal weather patterns, although there is less clear evidence of many of the secondary impacts that local communities and ecosystems will endure. In the United Kingdom, climatologists have predicted a change in seasonal climate toward wetter winters and drier summers, although they are less certain how individual storm patterns will change and what the knock-on impacts will be. Impacts are thought to be most felt in and around estuaries—at the confluence between terrestrial and marine processes, and where communities predominantly live and ecosystems are most productive. We are already seeing the impacts of climate change in estuaries in a range of ways—some of which are described in this chapter. We focus here on the United Kingdom and ask the question: how will estuaries change, and what are the drivers of this change? We hypothesize that hydrological drivers may be as important, if not more so, than other climate drivers such as sea-level change or morphological change." @default.
