- W2912010176 abstract "Subtrochanteric Femur Fractures have a bimodal distribution. They occur as part of a high energy injury in a younger patient group or a lower energy injury in the elderly population. This has served as a clinical problem since many fractures are comminuted or occur in patients with osteoporotic bone. The forces in the subtrochanteric region are high and therefore the fixation must be adequate to overcome these forces while the bone heals. In many early studies, the failure rates were around 20%. Modern treatment has improved but this remains a “problem” fracture. Many questions exist – What is the best device; What is the best starting point when using a nail; Should open reduction be performed or is closed nailing a better option. In this chapter, we will attempt to give the best available evidence to some of these questions." @default.
