- W2912046651 abstract "Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) represent a group of intestinal disorders. Together, they are the third highest risk factor for colorectal cancer. The overall approach for the treatment of IBD is to achieve remission and to prevent disease flares. This can be accomplished by surgical and/or pharmacological approaches, depending on the disease. This chapter focuses on the quantitative pharmacological approaches by means of targeted therapies, specifically monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). It also focuses on several mAbs that have received regulatory approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the indications of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. The chapter also discusses examples of systems models for the three selected mAbs that are approved by the FDA: infliximab, adalimumab, and certolizumab pegol, along with the specific challenges and unique opportunities for the knowledge gained from quantitative systems pharmacology and systems pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics modeling and simulation in IBD." @default.
