• W2912164791 abstract "It is an honor and a privilege for us, as General Chairs, to welcome you to HiPEAC'11, held in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, on the research center campus of FORTH, located next to the campus of the University of Crete. This is the Sixth International Conference on High Performance and Embedded Architectures and Compilers, following in the strong tradition of the previous conferences in Barcelona (2005), Ghent (2007), Goteborg (2008), Paphos (2009), and Pisa (2010), which, in recent years, have attracted more than 200 participants each.HiPEAC'11 offers a rich and diverse set of activities. The technical activities include, foremost, a strong program of keynote speeches and paper presentations, as prefaced next by the Program Chairs, and, in addition, seven Workshops and two Tutorials, all central to the HiPEAC Roadmap. The Workshops focus on Programmability Issues for Multicore Computers, Computer Architecture and Operating System Co-Design, Interconnection Network Architectures, Rapid Simulation and Performance Evaluation, Performance Portability and Programmability, Reconfigurable Computing, and Design for Reliability. The Tutorials are on Heterogeneous Programming using OpenCL, and ILDJIT --- a compilation framework for program introspection, optimization, and micro-architectural design.We are particularly proud to have two outstanding keynote addresses, one by Antonio Gonzalez, of Intel Labs and UPC, Barcelona, on the Implications of Moore's Law on Energy Reduction, and one by Saman Amarasinghe, of MIT, on PetaBricks --- a Language and Compiler, based on Autotuning.The non-technical activities reflect the effervescent life of the city, its four-millennia long history, and the breathtaking landscape of Crete. Attendees will stay in the center of the city that never sleeps, inside its Venetian-times castle, where the Workshops and Tutorials will be held, and will enjoy a Welcome Cocktail. The social program culminates with a guided tour of the Archaeological Site of 3600-year old Knossos, followed by an excursion to and the banquet at a winery on the hills of South Crete. Too bad that the Conference is not held in the summer: attendees would then also enjoy the marvelous beaches of Crete --- but January is not very recommended for sea swimming....This year, we are excited that HiPEAC'11 is organized in cooperation with ACM SIGPLAN, and that the HiPEAC'11 Proceedings will be published in the ACM Digital Library: we believe that this will greatly improve their worldwide on-line accessibility." @default.
